Mr. Wang, a motorist from Jixi City, China’s Heilongjiang Province, had long been hearing strange rattling noises from under the hood of his car, but even though they had gotten worse over time, he never bothered to have them checked. It wasn’t until last week that he noticed the car’s heating system appeared to be malfunctioning as well, and he finally went to a garage for a checkup.
On November 20, Wang took his car to a friend’s garage and discovered that the entire area below the windshield and under the hood was full of hazelnuts. But that didn’t explain the heating issue, at least not until the mechanic inspected the air vents and found them clogged with hazelnuts as well. Even the cabin filter was full of them.
“The maintenance started at 9 a.m. that day, and it wasn’t until after 11 a.m. that all the hazelnuts were removed,” Wang wrote on Weibo, adding that his car was mainly parked in a garage, so a squirrel couldn’t have gotten in.
The Chinese motorist blamed rats for stuffing his car full of hazelnuts. He had stored a bag of them in his garage, and upon inspecting it, he found that more than half the hazelnuts had been moved into his car by the rodents. He now plans to install sticky traps to prevent the rats from turning his SUV into a storage space for their supplies again.
